IC's JV Football team dropped a tough, hard fought game to St. Juliana Sunday afternon at Loyola Academy. The game was scoreless until late in the first half when Juliana put the first points on the board. Juliana later made it 12-0, but with less than 6 minutes left IC stormed back. Steady running by Patrick O'Malley and a long run by Eddie Stritzel set up a Patrick O'Malley touchdown with about 5:30 minutes to play. IC recovered the ensuing onside kick, and then marched down the field again lead by O'Malley and Stritzel and superb blocking from the offensive line. IC made it deep into Juliana territory but came up just short on a 4th and long. Juliana scored late and won 18-6. Congratulations to the JV team on a great season. This is their 3rd trip to the championship game in as many years. Thanks also to head coach Tony McInerney and his assistants Art Devereaux, Pat Gavin, Mike Gremo, Jeff Tait, Brian Murray, Brian Cummings, John Skowron for all of their hard work. In the Varsity Championship, St. Mary's defeated St. Tars.

Congratulations to IC's JV Football team on their third consecutive trip to the NWCC Championship game. IC got there by defeating St. Mary's of Buffalo Grove 13-12 in an exciting match-up Sunday at Notre Dame High School. Ethan Jennings ran for 2 touchdowns and Brendan Cravens added a late interception to seal the outcome. The Championship game is Sunday, November 8th at 12:00PM at Loyola Academy against St. Juliana. The Varsity also played Sunday at Notre Dame, also against St. Mary's of Buffalo Grove. Despite 4 touchdowns by Patrick Cravens, IC couldn't slow down St. Mary's offense, eventually falling 48-26. Ryan Tabisz, Eric Gutierrez, Pat Cravens, Jack Gavin and John Nolan all played their final IC Football game in yesterday's contest. The entire team, only 13 strong, should be commended on a great season. Special thanks also goes out to the Varsity coaches for keeping the Varsity 13 healthy and well prepared throughout the season. Thanks to Head Coach John Gavin and Assistants Joe Jummati, John Dore, Tom Losik, James Cummings, Kevin Cummings and Ryan Corliss for all of their hard work and dedication. Thanks also to last year's 8th graders (this year's current Freshman) for coming out to practice this week to help the Varsity out. Thanks also to the Varsity Cheerleaders and Coach Chris Gaede for all of their hard work throughout the season. We hope to see everyone out at Loyola next Sunday to heer the JV on.

Congratulations to both the JV and Varsity Football teams for clinching playoff berths with their wins this past Sunday. The top 4 teams at each level make the playoffs unless there is a 3 way tie for the final 2 spots, in which case 5 teams are in. The playoff scenarios are as follows:
JV
The current seeding is as follows:
1. St. Juliana
2. St. Mary's
3. IC
4. St. Ed's
An IC win this Saturday against Ed's would mean that the standings would remain as currently listed. An Ed's win would mean Ed's would be the 3rd seed and IC would be the 4th.
Varsity
The current seeding is as follows:
1. St. Francis de Sales
2. St. Tars
3. St. Mary's
4. IC
5. QAS
An IC win this Saturday against Ed's would mean that IC would clinch the 3rd seed. Key match-ups this Saturday are:
St. Francis de Sales at St. Mary's
QAS at St. Juliana
IC at St. Ed's
Borgia at St. Tars
QAS would be eliminated with a loss. A QAS victory coupled with a St. Mary's loss would eliminate St. Mary's, unless there is an IC loss, which would result in a 3 way tie for the last 2 spots. A St. Mary's win over St. Francis de Sales coupled with an IC win would mean that St. Tars would be # 1, St. Mary's #2, IC #3 and St. Francis #4. A QAS win coupled with a St. Mary's loss and an IC loss would mean that St. Francis would be #1, St. Tars #2 and QAS, IC and St. Mary's all tied for #3. This would result in a coin flip with the winner being the #4 seed and the other 2 teams playing each other to determine the #3 seed. The bottom line is that an IC win Saturday clinches the #3 seed with IC opening against either St. Tars or St. Mary's in the playoffs.
Playoffs are as follows:
Semifinals on Sunday November 1st at Notre Dame High School. Game times at 11:00AM/12:45PM/2:30PM/4:15PM. #1 vs. #4, #2 vs. #3 at each level. Winners play for the Championship the following Sunday, November 8th, at Loyola Academy. Game times are at 12:00PM/1:45PM.

Playoff dates have been set for 7th and 8th grade boys' basketball (5th and 6th grade do not have playoffs). 8th grade semi-finals will be held on Sunday, February 8th at 3:30 PM and 4:30 PM at Guerin Prep High School in the old Holy Cross gym (PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS THE DAY THAT FAMILIES ARE RETURNING FROM THE GRANITE PEAK SKI WEEKEND-PLAN ACCORDINGLY). 7th grade semi-finals are Wednesday, February 11th (time TBA), also at Guerin Prep. Championships for both 7th and 8th grade will be Thursday, February 12th at St. Pat's High School (times TBA). The reason that 7th grade semi's are not also being held on February 8th is that several of the 7th grade teams in the conference, including IC, are playing games that afternoon in either the St. Pat's or Fenwick tournaments, or both. Following the celebration Friday in Providence Hall & the Bowling Alley a microphone was found torn from it's ceiling socket on the stage in Providence Hall. Additionally, inappropriate grafitti was found on the wall in the boys bathroom. The Athletic Committee has offered to pay for any damage. We recognize accidents can happen, but can not tolerate defacing school property. We ask parents to reinforce this with their children. We apologize to Mrs. Felicione for the damage. In addition we will take steps to ensure parents do not leave children unattended at future Athletic Committee sponsored gatherings in the school and parish center.

Last night the IC Cowboys JV football team, led by Michael Olijnyk in an outstanding performance, defeated St. Juliana 33-13 to finish the season undefeated at 8-0. The game, played at Notre Dame High School in frigid conditions, was tied at 13 with just seconds remaining in the first half when David Steinle completed a short pass to Michael Olijnyk, who then proceeded on a long run into the end zone with no time left on the clock to put the Cowboys on top for good. In all, Olijnyk had 4 touchdowns. Shaun Polakow scored the Cowboys' first touchdown on the opening drive of the game. It was a great effort all around as all of the JV Cowboys made it into the game. Congratulations and thanks go out to head coach Tony McInerney and his assistants Art Devereax, Pat Gavin, John Skowron, Kevin Cummings, Jeff Tait and Brian Murray. Thanks and congratulations also go out to Varsity head coach John Gavin and his assistants, Joe Giamatti, James Cummings, John Dore, Kevin Moran, James Gallagher, Sean Mulkerin, Tom Sherry, Kevin Collins and Ryan Corliss, both for lending a helping hand to Tony McInerney and his assistants in getting the JV ready for last night's game, but also for the great season they had with the varsity. Thank you also to Carrie Armetta, Kim Agosta and all of the JV cheerleaders for braving the cold last night and cheering their teams on. Finally, thanks to all of the other IC students and parents who came out last night to cheer the JV on. It was great night for IC.

In a game which was much closer than the final score indicated, IC's Varsity football team fell 22-0 to St. Juliana in a semi-final playoff match-up at Loyola Academy Sunday. Juliana's scored on their first possession to make it 6-0 early, but IC fought hard and the score remained 6-0 with just over 6:00 minutes to play in regulation. Juliana's broke through for their second score shortly thereafter and added another score late. The Varsity Cowboys' toughness was on display as they battled all game, playing their 3rd contest in 8 days. All of the boys should be congratulated for their effort, as should John Gavin and the rest of the Varsity coaches for having the boys play their best football of the season in what amounted to 3 elimination games against Queen of All Saints, St. FRancis Borgia and St. Juliana to close out the season. It was a great season.

Daniel Henley scored 3 touchdowns and Joe Bailey and Patrick Cravens added 1 a piece. Aidan McNally added a 2 point conversion on a kick to round out the scoring. All of the Varsity Cowboys played well on both sides of the ball. Next up for the Varsity is St. Juliana on Sunday at 10:15 AM at Loyola Academy in the NWCC semi-finals. Don't forget that the JV plays their semi-final match-up Saturday at 10:00 AM at Loyola against St. Tars.

St. Francis Borgia defeated St. Ed's today. The resulting coin flip ended up with Queen of All Saints as the 4th seed, facing St. Mary's of Buffalo Grove on November 2nd. That means that IC's Varsity plays St. Francis Borgia this coming Wednesday, October 29th at 4:00 PM. The location is to be determined, but it will likely be either Olympia Park, Hiawatha Park, or Guerin Prep. Check back tomorrow for final details.

Yesterday IC's JV and Varsity Football teams hosted Queen of All Saints at Notre Dame High School in a make-up of the previously postponed September 14th games. Weather played a factor again as rain from the previous night made for a muddy track, but this did not slow the Cowboys down. The JV finished off the regular season undefetaed at 6-0 with a 33-7 victory over Queens. Not to be out-done, the Varsity followed up with a win of it's own, 13-6. The JV opens up the playoffs as the number one seed, and will face St. Tars at Loyola Academy next Sunday, November 2nd at 9:00 AM (all 4 playoff games will be played at Loyola that day and we have to start early to get all games in before night fall due to Daylight Savings time beginning the night before). With its win, the Varsity has set up a couple of interesting playoff scenarios. If St. Ed's defeats St. Francis Borgia (game today at 2:45 PM at Hiawatha Park), IC would be the 3rd seed and would open up against St. Juliana at Loyola on November 2nd. If Borgia wins today, there would be a 3-way tie between IC, QAS and SFB for the last 2 playoff spots. In that scenario, there will be a 3-way coin-flip or straw-draw today immediately after the Borgia game. The winner would automatically advance as the 4th seed and face St. Mary's of Buffalo Grove in the first round on November 2nd, and the other 2 teams would play each other this week (likely Tuesday or Wednesday), to see who advances and plays St. Juliana on November 2nd. Congratulations to the players and coaches of both the JV and Varsity. Check back later today for final playoff pairings.

Thanks to all of the parents who helped out with set-up, concessions and clean up last night. The Athletic Committee extends its thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of this past weekend. Your involvement - as athletes, cheerleaders, volunteers, musicians etc - in the Outdoor Mass, Pep Rally and Bar B Q made Saturday a memorable event. The parents and children that created the floats, participated in the parade and worked the concessions helped make Sunday's Homecoming a success. Congrats to the JV Football team on their win, the Varsity Football team on an admirable effort and the Cheeleading squads for their great routines and bottomless enthusiasm. Thanks also to the Coaches and lastly to Mike Gremo for organizing the food throughout the weekend - no one went hungry.

Last night marked the first games ever to be played in IC's new Parish Center. A great crowd was on hand to see IC's Girls' Basketball teams square off against St. Ed's. IC's Pastor, Fr. Eric Meyer, started things off by throwing up the ceremonial first tip before the 5th grade game. The 5th grade lost to St. Ed's 14-10 in a hard fought game. The 6th grade was victorious 22-10. The 7th grade came up just short in a 15-11 game. The 8th grade girls capped off a great night winning 18-9. Thanks to all who came out to volunteer with concessions or just to watch the games. More photos from last night can be found in our photo album. Next up for the girls: September 23rd at St. Ferdinand. Next home game in the Parish Center is September 30th against St. Bart's. Girls' AD Cathy Olijnyk would like to thank everyone who came out last night and made it such a success.
Note: We inadvertently reported earlier this week that the 6th grade girls lost to St. Francis Borgia. The 6th grade girls actually won that game. Congratulations girls.

Girls' Basketball-Concessions Volunteers.pdf (111.09 K)Due to a slow response to our request for concessions volunteers, we have created a list for each game for the Girls' Basketball season and have assigned families to work each game. 5th grade parents will work 6th grade games and vice versa, and 7th grade parents will work 8th grade games and vice versa. That way you will not have to miss your daughter's game. 1 parent from each family is asked to work concessions for your assigned games. As of right now we are asking 3 people to work the concession stand for each game. We also need 1 person for the scoreboard and 1 for the scorebook, but we will fill that in as needed for now unless otherwise indicated. If it turns out as we go along that fewer (or more) people are needed to adequately handle the concessions, we will adjust accordingly. A full list for the season can be found at the link at the top of this news page and can also be found in our "Downloads" section. If you are unable to make it to your assigned game, please switch with another parent so that your game is covered. Thank you.

Volunteers are needed to work the concession stands for both football games and girls' basketball games. We have 2 home football games, THE FIRST OF WHICH IS THIS COMING SUNDAY, and we have 7 home basketball games. We also need volunteers to work the chains for football games and to work the clock and scorebook for basketball games. If you don't know how to do any of the above, don't worry, we'll teach you. You may volunteer by clicking on the "Concessions-Volunteers" link on the lft side of the Main Page. Also, we are asking the family of each football player and cheerleader to bring water gatorade and pop to this Sunday's game for use in our concessions. Each JV football family should bring 1 case of gatorade. Each varsity football family should bring 1 case of pop (i.e Coke, Pepsi, Sprite, etc.). Each cheerleader family should bring 1 case of bottled water.
Money generated from our concessions is used to keep program costs down and a portion will also be used to reduce the Parish Center debt. Thank you for your cooperation.

Tired of attending a parent meeting every time your child participates in a sport at IC? Now you can avoid parent meetings by registering your child for his or her sport on-line. Simply click on the "Registration" tab for your child's sport on the right hand side of the main page and follow the instructions. Make sure you download and read the "Student-Athlete and Parent/Guardian Expectations and Responsibilities" excerpt from the IC School Athletic Handbook, and also be sure to download, sign and send in the Arch Diocese Participation form. You also now have the ability to pay your fees on-line using a credit card or PayPal (you still also have the option of sending in a check). If you have already sent in your payment, you are not required to register on-line, as many of the cheerleaders have alreday paid their fees. Thanks for registering, and enjoy your fall sports seasons.

Congratulations to IC's JV football team for an impressive 19-6 win over St. Francis Borgia Sunday at Hiawatha Park in the season opener.
The Varsity squad should also be commended for putting forth a great effort in an 18-12 thriller in which IC came up just short in double over-time.
Thanks to all of the cheerleaders for all of their hard work and thanks to all of the parents and students who came out to the game. It felt like an IC home game.
Come out and see both teams this coming Sunday, September 14th at Notre Dame High School when IC hosts Queen of All Saints. The JV game is at 1:00 PM and the Varsity plays at 2:45 PM.
